In a recent episode of The Messenger Movement Podcast, host Tamra Andress welcomed special guest Tori Hein for a deep and insightful conversation about transforming pain into peace. Their discussion offers profound wisdom on how to navigate life’s valleys and find true emotional and spiritual healing.
One of the foundational points Tori Hein emphasizes is the importance of engaging with your story honestly. She draws a powerful analogy from the Bible, recounting how Adam and Eve’s perfect union with God was fractured, leaving a veil between humanity and Christ. This brokenness is a part of all our stories, and it is crucial to face it with honesty.
Tori’s work through Freedom Movement, Freedom Academy, and her coaching certification programs focuses on bridging the gap between our shattered sense of peace (shalom) and a restored wholeness. She stresses the importance of meeting God in the depths of our valleys, rather than trying to bypass our pain or walk a tightrope over it.
“It’s not until we get to the valley and we meet God in the midst of our valley, honestly, that we have eyes to see in the dark,” Tori explains. She believes that true transformation begins with acknowledging and grieving our pain, rather than merely striving to be confident in our weaknesses.
Tori further elaborates on the necessity of grieving our stories to achieve healing. She recounts how Adam and Eve’s attempt to bypass their guilt led to a deeper separation from God. This mirrors our own tendencies to avoid facing our pain and the underlying issues that shape our behaviors.
Tori shares examples from her coaching experiences, illustrating how people often excel in certain areas of life while struggling in others due to unresolved pain. By exploring the roots of these self-sabotaging behaviors, Tori helps her clients uncover and grieve the past traumas that shape their current actions.
For Christians, this process can be challenging due to ingrained beliefs about faith and family. However, Tori emphasizes the importance of honesty and vulnerability in this journey. “We white-knuckle our way through our existence with the Lord without a deeper place of honesty,” she says.
Tori and Tamra also discuss the vital role of safe, supportive communities in the healing process. Tori underscores that transformation is not something that can be achieved in isolation or through sheer willpower. It requires the presence and support of others who can offer empathy and understanding.
Drawing from biblical principles, Tori highlights the interconnectedness of our relationships with God and others. Healing involves not only personal introspection but also the nurturing of relationships that provide safety and attunement.
For those who cannot completely step away from their responsibilities, Tori advises finding ways to invest in one’s soul through trusted groups or therapy. The goal is to create a space where one can honestly explore and grieve past hurts, leading to deeper healing and transformation.
Tori outlines practical steps for those seeking to transform their pain into peace. She uses the analogy of an iceberg to describe the different layers of our behaviors and thoughts. While some behaviors are visible to others, deeper layers of pain and beliefs are often hidden even from ourselves.
The process of healing involves bringing these hidden aspects to light, which requires both divine revelation and the support of empathetic companions. Tori encourages listeners to seek out safe environments where they can explore their stories honestly and receive guidance.
She warns against relying solely on individual efforts, emphasizing the importance of community and relationship in the journey toward healing. “You have been created by God for relationship with him and relationship with others,” she reminds us.
Ultimately, Tori Hein’s message is one of hope and empowerment. By honestly facing our pain, grieving our past, and engaging in supportive communities, we can transform our pain into peace and write a new story for our lives. This journey requires courage, vulnerability, and a willingness to enter the depths of our valleys, but the reward is a restored sense of wholeness and a deeper connection with God and others.
For those interested in delving deeper into this transformative process, Tori’s work through Freedom Movement and her coaching programs offer valuable resources and support.
