As mothers, we wear many hats — caretaker, teacher, comforter, and for some of us, entrepreneur. Balancing the demands of motherhood with the thrill and challenge of entrepreneurship is a feat worthy of celebration. This blog post draws insights from an enlightening podcast episode of The Messenger Movement, where host Tamra Andress interviewed Suzy Olivier, the founder of Mothers of Enterprise.
Suzy Olivier’s entrepreneurial journey began in 2008, during the economic downturn, when she launched a luxury personal training and physical therapy company. Despite the challenging circumstances, her business thrived, a testament to her tenacity and the favor of God.
Life took a turn when her husband joined the Royal Air Force. As a military spouse, Suzy had to navigate the challenges of frequent relocations and deployments. Realizing that starting a location-based business every two years wasn’t feasible, she pivoted to a product-based business model, selling teething jewelry. Her new venture was a resounding success, gaining international recognition and securing spots on the shelves of major retailers.
In 2018, Suzy felt a divine nudge to create a platform specifically for mothers in business, which led to the birth of Mothers of Enterprise. The transition wasn’t smooth sailing. Suzy grappled with imposter syndrome and doubts about her ability to be a coach. But with every step, God reassured her that she was on the right path. Her high-ticket coaching program sold out during the COVID-19 lockdown in April 2020, proving that God’s economy operates differently from the world’s.
One of the key turning points in Suzy’s journey was embracing her faith in her business messaging. Initially hesitant to discuss her faith openly for fear of judgment or losing clients, Suzy soon realized that God was calling her to be bolder. This shift not only resonated with her clients but also opened doors for deeper conversations about salvation.
As an entrepreneur, Suzy emphasizes the importance of working with the right clients — those who align with your values and don’t drain your energy. She learned the hard way that saying ‘no’ to energy-draining clients, even when it meant turning down potential income, was crucial for her wellbeing.
One of the most significant advantages of entrepreneurship for mothers, according to Suzy, is the flexibility and freedom it provides. Being her own boss allows her to design her days around her family’s needs, giving her the capacity to be present for her children.
Looking towards the future, Suzy envisions Mothers of Enterprise as a platform that helps more women realize their potential. She aims to guide and support women through the challenges of entrepreneurship and motherhood, creating a legacy and serving others for the Lord.
In conclusion, entrepreneurship and motherhood are two demanding roles, but with faith, flexibility, and the courage to take bold steps, they can coexist harmoniously. Women like Suzy Olivier are paving the way and proving that mothers can indeed have it all — a fulfilling career, a loving family, and a faith-filled life.
