In the hustle and bustle of our busy lives, finding a connection between our work and faith can often seem challenging. However, Tamra Andress, host of The Messenger Movement Podcast, shares her profound experiences at the ‘At Work On Purpose’ event in Cincinnati, demonstrating how business experiences can be powerful encounters with Christ.
At the event, participants were encouraged to pause after each speaker and write down what they felt God was saying through the speaker’s words. This practice forged a deep and transformational connection with Christ, demonstrating that our everyday business experiences can be divine interactions if we only pause to listen.
Tamra introduced the concept of the ‘Messenger Movement,’ an initiative inviting individuals to become messengers who vocalize truth, transform narratives, and catalyze Christians to speak, write, build, and testify while doing business God’s way. This approach emphasizes operating from a kingdom mentality, moving in the world like kings and queens on a chessboard, moving with the knowledge of their victorious end.
In business, we often function as ‘organizations,’ following worldly systems and hierarchies. Tamra urges listeners to operate as an ‘organism,’ living and breathing as the body of Christ in the marketplace. She introduces the concept of ‘plain glass’ (worldly perspective) vs. ‘stained glass’ (spiritual perspective), encouraging listeners to see through the ‘stained glass’ lens while communicating in ‘plain glass’ terms.
Tamra highlights the importance of stewarding trials, transforming them into opportunities to minister to others going through similar experiences. She also emphasizes the power of prayer, with every major awakening preceded by concerted prayer efforts, citing a 24-hour prayer movement involving 60 organizations and 1,400 intercessors.
Tamra expresses her passion for listeners to flourish vocationally and culturally under the understanding of who God is. To embody this, she invites them to join the Founder Academy, a collaborative space for kingdom marketplace leaders and ministers to synergize and catalyze their efforts.
Faith at work, or marketplace ministry, is about recognizing that our work is not separate from God’s work. It’s about understanding that every business experience can be a divine interaction, and every trial an opportunity for ministry. It’s about functioning as a living organism in the marketplace, operating from a kingdom mentality, and flourishing vocationally and culturally while aligning with God’s purposes. In this way, we can truly live on earth as it is in heaven.
